August 5, 2022The Divorce Process – Diving Deep Into How It Works
August 7, 2022Leg injuries are some of the most unfortunate because our legs support our whole body, so when they’re hurt, we move with difficulty. This is why we need to be extra careful when walking, running or doing any activity in order to keep our legs safe. Accidents are inevitable though, so no matter how careful we may be, we may still stumble and fall or injure our legs some other way.
The tricky thing about hurting any part of our body is that if we don’t treat it directly we stand the risk of sustaining permanent injury. There are some important steps to follow to protect ourselves from that risk. Here is how to prevent or remedy a leg injury on your own.
First Step After Injury: R.I.C.E
The first thing to do if you hurt your leg in any way is to follow the R.I.C.E. method. RICE stands for Rest, Ice, Compress, and Elevate. Resting is critical to making sure you don’t hurt yourself any further. Your leg muscles are too weak and need time to build up and get stronger, this is why moving strains your legs and subjects your muscles and bones to more severe damage. You may also find yourself experiencing a lot of pain.
Applying ice to the injured part helps relieve the pain and reduces or prevents swelling, depending on the level of injury. Compressing your leg supports and protects it from further damage, and it also helps it heal. In case of broken bones, you need to put your leg in a cast to keep the bones in the right position for optimal healing.
Go See a Doctor
It’s best to see a doctor after any accident to make sure everything’s ok, and that nothing is broken or in need of more attention. It’s crucial to see a doctor if you can’t step on your leg or move it at all. Depending on the severity of the injury, the doctor will give you medication, and they may ask for X-Rays.
The workplace is one of the most common places where accidents happen. In case you get injured on the job, you must see a doctor and ask for a full medical report detailing how bad the injury is. If you’re in a lot of pain and need rest, or the accident was so bad that you may need a cast or surgery, you’re entitled to a workers comp sprained ankle or a broken one, depending on the report. This means that your job should cover your medical expenses, give you a paid sick leave to rest, and if your ability to work is affected by the accident, give you generous compensation.
Recovering from Injury
Recovery takes time. During this period, you need to consult with a health professional regarding what you need to do. Your doctor may ask you to do simple exercises to regain muscle strength, but you may not be restricted from doing other activities. This is to ensure that you don’t hurt yourself further, so make sure you are keen on following the instructions.
Leg injuries are painful and extremely inconvenient, but they’re curable. Being patient with yourself and giving yourself enough time to heal and recover is critical to getting back to your normal condition. Be safe, and listen to your doctor.
