We have all heard numerous times that it is appropriate to attend any event you can find. This could be a workshop, a webinar, a fair, or a panel session, and that statement is true. These events are worth following; however, rarely does anyone discuss how you can take advantage of them. Because each event is unique, it is impossible to give general advice and tips on how to benefit from all events. This is because wisdom and knowledge are acquired differently depending on the occasion. Therefore, today, I shall focus on “How to benefit from The Legal Cheek Virtual Vacation Schemes”.
Some of you might already be aware of Legal Cheek and the events they conduct. However, if you aren’t already in acquaintance with them, let me showcase a short brief. They are the UK’s most read legal website: legal news, career advice and market insight. They are also organisers of the UK’s most significant and best virtual student events and law fairs. To know more about them, definitely follow them on LinkedIn and Instagram. Also, keep yourself updated by frequently visiting their website, signing up to attend upcoming events and much more.
Moving towards today’s centric topic, The Legal Cheek Virtual Vacation Schemes. In partnership with The University of Law, this virtual experience is offered three times per year: spring, summer, and winter. What makes it unique is that each experience is never the same, featuring various speakers and content.
The event will feature workshops and presentations, leading firms, chambers, and in-house legal departments. Besides providing an overview of hot topics and building your commercial awareness, case study exercises offer practical insights into the law and help you apply what you learn. The presenters discuss how to approach the case study and highlight the critical elements. Following the Scheme, you will receive sample solutions for the case studies. Moreover, this Scheme is free of charge and open to all. It’s a sort of mass recruitment.
Now I’ll give you two main tips to help you benefit from The Legal Cheek Virtual Vacation Schemes and make the learning process more effective.
Choose your right learning style
In the Scheme, a wide range of mini-events take place throughout the forum that contains a wealth of information, which means it is essential to understand how you will absorb all that information and retain it for as long as possible. Some people prefer visual and auditory techniques. Some people like to look more than others like to listen. No one way is correct; however, you need to find the right one to maximise learning retention.
Write key content
Organising content while listening to the forum is of utmost importance even if your memory power is good, as this content is usually showcased in detail. Simply writing down the points might work for all; however, it is not the most effective note-making technique. Remember to also customise the notes and critical content according to your preferences.
There are two types of formats to utilise:
Firstly, The Law Template: Key Takeaways, Rule of Law (if mentioned), Terminologies, Important Tips, Advice, Dates, Speakers (whose speeches intrigued/interested oneself) and further events/deadlines spoken about during the forum.
Secondly, The Case Brief Template: Issue, Facts, Procedural History, Arguments and Court Reasonings. Additionally, based on the case study, the work variation differs. Therefore, anything necessary should be noted from the pupil’s side.
By the time this article is out, the spring and summer Legal Cheek Virtual Vacation Schemes would have been over; however, don’t worry, the winter one remains. So, apply for that as the application opens up.
