Reading time: two minutes
“What is meant for you, will reach you even it is beneath two mountains, What is not meant for you, won’t reach you even if it is between your two lips”.
Pupillage interviews season can be a rollercoaster of emotions. The pressure, the anticipation, the disappointment, the shame – it can all take a toll on your mental well-being. As we commence into the cut throat interview season, I have fleshed out some tips to help you stay sane and keep your mental health in check during this hectic time.
Take Back Control
It is completely normal to feeling like everything’s spinning out of control. Take a deep breath and remember, you still have power over some things in your life.
Here are a few tips to help you reclaim control:
- Establish a daily routine to add some structure to your days.
- If you are still in law school, plan out your study sessions and breaks to avoid burnout. If you are working, utilise your work from days to make it work for you.
- Make time for activities that bring you joy and relaxation. If you are a gym girlie, now is not the time to stop those spin classes; it is business as usual and you will feel better when those endorphins hit.
By taking charge of your schedule, you will feel more grounded and less stressed out.
Personal Growth
Pupillage interviews can be intimidating, but they are also an opportunity for personal growth. Use this time to set some goals for yourself beyond just nailing your interviews. Whether it is honing your advocacy skills or exploring a new hobby, setting and achieving these goals can give you a confidence boost and keep you sane amidst the chaos.
Stay Connected
It is easier said than done, but try not to let the stress of interviews push you into isolation. Reach out to your support network – your friends and family are there for a reason! Ask them if they would like to go for a walk or invite your friends round for dinner. Fill them in on how your interviews are going – do not try to ignore your emotions, process them and share them; this is a safe space.
Even if you cannot hang out with your friends in-person, hop on FaceTime or text your best friend. Having people to talk to and laugh with during this time can make all the difference in the world.
Find Your Chill
When the pressure starts to feel overwhelming, it’s important to have some relaxation techniques up your sleeve. Whether it is practicing deep breathing, meditation, or blasting your favourite Afrobeats; find what works for you and make it a part of your daily routine. And remember, it is okay to ask for help if you need it. Talking to someone you trust can be a game-changer.
Bottom Line
Pupillage interviews season can be a wild ride, but you can do this! Remember to take care of yourself, stay positive, and prioritise your mental health above all else. You have worked hard to get here, and what is meant for you won’t pass you by. Good luck!
