After all the Budget excitement, a slightly calmer week.

Monday and Tuesday are the final days of Budget debate.

Ditching fossil fuels is on the agenda as COP26 takes place in Glasgow.

The new government bill this week is about financing nuclear power stations like Sizewell C in Suffolk. It involves adding a bit of money to energy bills, which officials say would make these projects cheaper in the long run.

On Wednesday MPs vote on whether to suspend Owen Paterson for 30 days.

The Committee on Standards found that he broke Commons rules on lobbying. A suspension is serious because it triggers a recall petition. If 10% of his constituents sign it, the former environment secretary would be ousted as an MP.

Schools and Educational Settings (Essential Infrastructure and Opening During Emergencies) Bill
Classifies educational settings (including early years, schools, colleges and universities) as essential infrastructure that should remain open to all students during public health and other national emergencies. Ten minute rule motion presented by Robert Halfon.

Nuclear Energy (Financing) Bill – 2nd reading
Applies to: England, Wales, Scotland (part), Northern Ireland (part)
Approves a new financing model for building nuclear power stations whereby households pay a small amount each month to fund plants as they’re being constructed. By financing nuclear projects upfront, the aim is to make them more attractive to domestic investors and reduce the UK’s reliance on funding from overseas groups like the China General Nuclear Power Group.
