How you organise yourself in terms of desk space really can make a difference. You are likely to have books, files, an exam paper, answer booklet, stationery and water as a minimum. Depending on your institution, you may not have a lot of space to spread out. I would suggest putting anything you don’t need at all times on the floor: food, water and stationery. Depending on how you have chosen to prepare your notes, consider putting the less useful of your notes and books on the floor too. Also be careful not to obstruct your writing arm.
I remember clearly watching a fellow classmate struggle with three files of notes, two books, two bananas, an impressive collection of pens and highlighters and a large bottle of water, all on his desk. He spent so much time moving stuff from pile to pile whilst trying to write I would be very surprised if he managed to finish the paper!
