The Student Lawyer was founded by Lewis Cheney whilst studying at Nottingham Law School in 2011.Daniel Nivern and Edward Holroyd Pearce are Directors of CRCC Asia, a company specialising in securing internships in China for students across the world. In October 2012, CRCC Asia invested in The Student Lawyer and Daniel and Edward became Directors of the company.
