European law firm, Fieldfisher announced its latest merger with Chinese firm, JS Partners on 15 November 2016. JS Partners is a 12 partner firm, established in 2008 and will adopt the new name ‘FeiShi’ under the Fieldfisher brand, using a Swiss Verein structure. In the last six months, Fieldfisher has also merged with Birmingham-based commercial firm Hill Hofstetter, and Italian firm, Studio Associato Servizi Progfessionali Integrati (SASPI). According to JS Partners’s antitrust partner, Zhaofeng Zhou, the firm has plans to open a Shanghai office soon. In 2013, Fieldfisher secured a Swiss Verein combination with Shanghai-based Ryser & Associates, however, this ended by mutual agreement.
Michael Chissick, managing partner of Fieldfisher said, “[a]s we continue to develop our European presence, this merger will allow us to service the growing demand for Chinese clients seeking to invest and do business in Europe, whilst also increasing our ability to service international clients seeking opportunities in China”.
