After weeks of speculation, the partners of CMS, Nabarro and Olswang have voted unanimously today to merge their firms and create the UK’s sixth largest law firm by revenue and sixth largest law firm globally, by lawyer headcount.
The three-way merger, expected to be completed by May 2017, will involve Nabarro and Olswang joining the CMS UK Partnership. The firm will be called CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang, but will trade as CMS. Europe’s largest law firm, CMS will be gifted with Nabarro’s leading Real Estate practice and Olswang’s outstanding record in Technology, Media and Telecommunications while providing Nabarro and Olswang with significant European weight. Once merged, the firm will have over 1,000 partners and over 7,500 employees across 65 offices in 36 countries around the world, with combined estimated revenues of £450m in the UK and €1.2bn globally.
Olswang’s chief executive officer Paul Stevens commented, “Together, we materially strengthen all of our practice areas in the context of a firm with 65 offices worldwide. This new partnership will provide our new firm’s clients with a cutting-edge service in our strategic sectors as they grow their businesses and brands in the future.”
