Nottingham Law School at NTU

  • Nottingham Law School at Nottingham Trent University (NTU) is one of the largest Law Schools in the UK with a reputation for excellence in legal education, recently awarded Legal Education Provider of the Year 2016 by the Solicitors Journal. The School offers courses at every level of legal training, from undergraduate and postgraduate courses to professional and practitioner courses.   • Postgraduate Courses at Nottingham Law School at NTU

    Nottingham Law School offers both Postgraduate and Professional courses.

    Nottingham Law School offer a number of specialist LLM courses to suit your career aspirations. Courses are offered via different study modes such as full-time (FT) or part-time (PT) and a number of subjects are offered through distance learning (DL).

    Nottingham Law School offer the Legal Practice Course and the Bar Professional Training Course as LLM qualifications, meaning that their students are eligible to apply for the government’s postgraduate loan. They also offer the Graduate Diploma in Law conversion course as both full-time and distance learning options for non-law graduates who want to take the first step in their legal career.

    As Nottingham Law School are fully serviced Law School, they also offer a number of practitioner courses to enable Trade Mark and Intellectual Property practitioners to enhance their knowledge and develop their legal career.

  • Facilities

    As well as the facilities available to all NTU students such as the students’ union and newly refurbished library, students in the Law School have access to law-specific facilities directly linked to practice, including replica courtrooms and mooting rooms, to provide students with experience in a relevant environment.

    Nottingham Law School has its own Legal Advice Centre (LAC). The Centre is a teaching law firm offering pro bono services to the local community and providing students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in practice. The Centre has been granted Alternative Business Structure (ABS) status by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) and is the only Free Representation Unit (FRU) outside of London. Students represent clients at employment and social security tribunals, with supervision from our staff. The Centre also provides outstanding opportunities for our students, who work under the supervision of qualified solicitors to provide free legal advice and assistance.

    Employability

    Nottingham Law School has a dedicated careers and recruitment service which provides students with as much guidance and assistance as possible in their search for a training contract, pupillage, or other graduate career. Support is offered from undergraduate level and increases as students progress onto our professional courses. 96% of Nottingham Law School’s undergraduate Law School students are employed or engaged in further study six months after graduating (DLHE, undergraduate leavers 2015-16).

    Societies

    There are over 100 societies currently affiliated to Nottingham Trent Students’ Union with new affiliations coming in all the time, so there's something for everyone. LEX is Nottingham Trent University's highly successful Law society. They provide a host of exciting opportunities for anybody studying (or with an interest) in Law.
    LEX law society offers workshops aimed at providing students with some of the practical skills a solicitor needs on a daily basis, such as client interviews or drafting legal documents. The society arranges a variety of networking events, which give members the chance to interact with legal professionals. It also holds social nights, networking dinners and drinks, trips to legal landmarks such as the Inns of Court, and the annual ball.

    Nottingham Law School’s reputation for world class education and scholarly research is a reflection of their high quality, committed teaching staff.
    They have a number of internationally recognised experts in a wide range of legal areas. International Insolvency Law, Criminal Justice, Legal Education, Sports Law and Health Law are some of the areas where our academic research excellence is recognised globally.
    They also have seven active research groups and centres:
    • The Centre for Advocacy;
    • The Centre for Business and Insolvency Law;
    • The Centre for Conflict, Rights and Justice;
    • The Centre for Legal Education;
    • The Centre for Marine Ecological Resilience and Geological Resources;
    • The Centre for Mediation and Dispute Resolution and
    • Sports Law Research Group.
