Clear the Lobby: What laws are MPs voting on this week? – w/c 29th October

Welcome to our weekly feature courtesy of Sebastian Salek, the brains behind Clear the Lobby, working to bring you all the laws MPs are voting on this week, and explained in plain English!

A seemingly quiet week, but on Monday we get the annual Budget announcement from Chancellor Philip Hammond. This is then debated until Thursday. It all culminates in a Finance Bill, which is expected to be published on 7 November.

Tobacco Bill
Creates the offence of selling tobacco without a licence. Requires the government to report on the obligation of tobacco companies to fund smoking cessation services. Ten minute rule motion presented by Sir Kevin Barron.

Wednesday 17 September

Banking and Post Office Services (Rural Areas and Small Communities) Bill
Requires banks to provide certain services in rural areas and small communities, and ensures access to Post Office services. Ten minute rule motion presented by Luke Graham.
