Fieldfisher opens fifth office in Italy as the firm merges with Bologna firm Lucchini Gattamorta & Associates (LGA), continuing its global expansion spree for 2016-17.
The new Italian office will be led by Gianvincenzo Lucchini founding member and corporate partner of LGA, joined by fellow LGA partner Andrea Gattamorta. An 18-strong team of associates and trainees from LGA will also work in the office.
LGA’s Rimini office will close as part of the merger. The merged firm also has four other offices in Milan, Rome, Venice and Turin, the Italian team now consisting of over 210 lawyers and 28 partners. The offices focus on various practice areas including banking, corporate, employment, data protection and compliance.
Giusi Lamicela, Fieldfisher’s executive partner in Italy, reported that the firm chose Bologna because of the city’s ‘strong industrial and commercial history.’ In further comments, Lamicela added that Fieldfisher aims to be a ‘leading influence’ by making further strategic partnerships in the Italian legal market.
Michael Chissick – Fieldfisher’s managing partner stated that the Italian branch has been efficient ‘at cross-selling and developing relationships across the network-particularly in our energy and natural resources sector.’
The firm has seen extensive expansion this year, opening offices in both Amsterdam and Shanghai. Chissick also restated the firm’s plans to launch in Barcelona and Madrid in the next year, as the firm plans to be represented in each of the major capital cities in Europe.
