Upon the news that the value of UK M&A deals has fallen by 45 per cent over the first nine months of 2016 compared to the same period the previous year, Freshfields continues to be involved in significant mergers taking place on UK soil. Freshfields was instructed by global asset manager Henderson Group, while Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom advised Denver-based global investment firm Janus Capital Group. The merger is worth around $6bn with the combined group being renamed Janus Henderson Global Investors, holding assets of more than $320bn.
Headquartered in London, the group will apply for listing on the New York Stock Exchange and plans to cease trading on the London Stock Exchange. Head of Corporate in Freshfields’ London office, Simon Marchant said, “This is exactly the sort of complex, cross-border transaction which underscores the importance of having a fully-integrated, top tier international M&A practice.”
