Back in July of this year, it was reported that changes in the graduate recruitment process for university students meant that students in their penultimate year of study could now be offered training contracts. This contrasted the previous code of practice which required offers to be made only to final year students. The majority of firms have maintained their original July 31st deadline for training contract applications. However, a number of top firms including A&O, Taylor Wessing and Ashurst have reset their deadlines following the changes to the code.
A&O have moved their deadline to December 31st 2015, while Taylor Wessing require their applications to be submitted by April 30th 2016. The most extreme deadline change has come from Ashurst, who have moved their applications forward to November 1st 2015, an entire six months before other firms. Bringing forward these deadlines seems to be justified by the need to refresh the recruitment process for training contracts while also still allowing students time to complete these highly competitive applications.
