American leader of on-demand Internet streaming media Netflix Inc has decided to attract the best talents and beat the competition with its offer of one year of fully paid maternity and paternity leave for its employees to care for a newborn or newly adopted child. In addition to that parents would be able to take off as much time as they want during the first year after a child’s birth or adoption. Basically parents are given a choice whether to return to work part-time, full-time, or return and then go back to work as needed. Overall the Netflix social policy far exceeds typical social benefits at other large US corporations.
Although “unlimited leave” has been a tough decision for Netflix, it could be a smart decision to save the company and make it even better in the long term. In the times of market instability and financial insecurity, the majority of businesses are focused on either budget cuts or rapid growth, with many experienced employees either hunting for a better salary or embarking on their own start ups.
